Each year Urban Truant offers you an exclusive opportunity to compete in ‘The Round the Island Race’, one of the racing calendars most fun and rewarding events.
Racing experience not necessary
‘Team Urban Truant’ will be entering several yachts into the 2007 race, including our sporty Dufour 40s.
We are confident that with our experienced racing skippers and enthusiastic teams on board, they will be well placed.
Whether you have racing experience or not, you can be part of that team and enjoy the thrill of the sail.
The timetable
This is traditionally a three-day package. Friday is training day where we spend time perfecting our sail handling, execute tacking and flying the spinnaker.
Our racing skippers run through the strategy and tactics that we'll need to take advantage of a best course on all points of sail.
Starting guns are early on Saturday morning and once we’re off it’s about 50 miles to the finish line.
We moor overnight in Cowes and soak up the party atmosphere that engulfs the town for the weekend.
After a leisurely Full English on Sunday morning, we’ll sail back to Mercury Yacht Harbour.
A past customer best explains the Urban Truant experience...
"A chance meeting with the team from Urban Truant at the Southampton Boat Show and a snap decision in the lee of the Guinness Tent saw us book Kindred Spirit for the 2006 Round the Island race.
Come June a scratch crew including a Sigma 8 mainsheet trimmer, a smattering of RS200 racers, a Dart 16 helm and a brace of Moody cruisers jetted in (mainly from Scotland).
The light winds and wall to wall sunshine were enjoyed by all 1700+ boats.
However, the quiet professionalism of the Urban Truant Team and the camaraderie and fun it generated on Kindred Spirit was restricted to our select few.
The practice race on Friday, the race itself and the leisurely sail back from Cowes on Sunday were all tailored to suit our requests and if the standard of our sailing had matched the quality of the food from the galley we'd have been in the running for a trophy.
As it was we settled for a great weekends sailing and a promise to each other to do it again next year."
